It only had "On my way!" and any others I created on the iPhone. Only the iPhone refused to sync the shortcuts. didn't work for me by itself, but the process I outline here did. Hope this helps you, my problem started on an iPhone 7 and probably with 10.3. I haven't confirmed success on that device yet, and of course, this whole thing may break tomorrow (but it didn't yesterday or the day before!) and I am hopeful that I've put this annoyance to rest. Its an iPad 4th gen that I keep at work for light browsing/reading at lunch. I do have one more iPad floating out there. I'm partying like a Rock Star (in my mind.)
I then repeated the iMac procedure for my account on the MacBook Air I administer for my mother and had the same experience. However, within a few seconds it was populated with my complete and correct master list of shortcuts. I immediately opened the Text Replacement preference pane and found the list was empty. I moved that folder to the Desktop and restarted.

No, but I came across an article that through a chain of "logical leap what ifs" on my part led me to doing a finder search that led me to a folder buried deep in my user library:Ĭom.įWIW, that folder may be a legacy preference/cache because a search for it on my new MacBook Pro (Sierra native) doesn't find it. Spent a few minutes re-searching the internet to see if there was anything new on the topic. Opening the appropriate preferences pane its own special selection of keyboard shortcuts that (previously) weren't particularly in sync with any other devices. I was really pleased when, in very short order, the Text Replacement Shortcuts on both my iPhone and iPad Pro reflected that master list that I'd created. (Not too bad with multiple selection available) and make a few adjustments to the large handful of shortcuts I wanted to keep. Thus encouraged, I took a few minutes to clean out the unwanted entries on the Mac. Ugh-but still, it's the same list everywhere I've checked so… I'd given up on it a while back, but suddenly it was back with me full-force.

Nice idea, but in the end I'm a reasonably good speller and a half-way competent typist - the full dictionary was a lot of clutter and often interfered with my intended output.

I checked the shortcuts on the new MacBook Pro and was disappointed by their absence - until I restarted when they all (and again, I mean all appeared.)īy all I mean that back in the early days I'd made the mistake of following a TidBITS tip and dumped a huge dictionary into Text Replacement. With the recent purchase of a MacBook Pro, (two actually, but one was returned in favor of the one I have now)I found that the shortcuts weren't syncing over to it at all. This is an annoyance because I do make heavy use of a handful of shortcuts and because I want access from all of my iOS apps, Text Expander isn't an option for me. I've tried various fixes and refused to try a few that I deemed too extreme or time consuming, particularly given the seemingly mixed results from killing the various rubber chickens. I had different combinations of shortcuts on my various iDevices and Macintosh computers. I've had a support ticket open for months with Apple because my Keyboard Text Replacement Shortcuts weren't syncing consistently. (Legacy in this case meaning that they both legitimately run Sierra, but didn't start life that way.) I spent many years supporting myself as a gun-for-hire Mac Consultant/Troubleshooter but I'm not a true expert on the deep inner-workings of the OS. This worked for me and the reason why seemingly makes sense from a tech-savvy laymen's perspective. I've recently won a small victory in the battle against the Black Box that is iCloud Sync on the Text Replacement Shortcut front.
